COLIN ORCHARD RBA

Born in Ewell, Surrey, in 1935 Colin Orchard began his working life in 1950 with The Times, where he trained as a typographer and layout artist. In 1962 he joined Letraset International as Art Director and after ten years left in order to freelance as a graphic designer. Colin moved from Dorking to St Ives in 1983 to devote more time to his painting. 

All Colin's paintings are oil on calico, mounted on board.  He prepares his own panels, using traditional methods for glueing and priming the panels and gessoing the frames.

Since 1987 Colin has had 14 one-man exhibitions and has exhibited in over 50 venues throughout the UK.  Colin is included in the 'Dictionary of Artists in Britain since 1945' by David Buckman and 'Who's Who in Art' 2006/8.  He is also co-author of 'Art about St Ives' in 2006 and the designer of 'Gasworks to Gallery – the Story of Tate St Ives.  In 2007, Colin was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists.  He also won 'The Artist'  award at the 2007 RBA exhibition.
