JENNY WOODHOUSE
Jenny Woodhouse was born in Berkshire in 1948 although her childhood was spent in Cornwall. Before finally returning to Cornwall in 1983, Jenny's intervening years were spent raising her family, she was also variously employed in nursing and art projects. In 1997 Jenny gained her BA Hons Fine Art Degree from Falmouth College of Art and in the same year she moved to St. Ives. Of her work she comments:
"My paintings are primarily concerned with the landscape, hovering between abstraction and figuration. The images do not usually depict an actual place, but evolve from something I have seen – a half-hidden field pattern, old lichened stone, sunburnt moorland grass, the drama of a high tide.
I enjoy walking and exploring the landscape but prefer to create my work in the studio, where I feel free to experiment, building up textures, often in several layers, then scratching and overpainting until I am left with a remaining essence and a feeling for the natural forms of the landscape."
