KATHERINE JENKIN
Katherine Jenkin (nee Luntley) uses archetypal and allegorical images of woman, reflecting her own feelings and emotions. The horse also features in Katherine Jenkin's sculptural work and is symbolic as a messenger of the Gods, according to legend. Text is sometimes used to bring another layer of communication to the work, while remaining integral to the appeal of the work.
Katherine Jenkin's work is hand-built by modelling and coiling, using a technique that employs an internal structure which burns away during firing. Using decorative combinations of slips, glazes and oxides, the work is fired to stoneware temperatures in an electric kiln.
Katherine Jenkin lives and works in St. Agnes, Cornwall, her studio overlooking the sea from Trevaunance Cove.
