TERRY ENGLISH
Terry English who lives in Angarrack, West Cornwall, is considered to be the finest armourer in the world, with over 30 years experience in the film industry. He has made the armour for more than 70 actors and actresses in over 25 films from ‘The Lion in Winter’ and ‘Excalibur’ to Joan of Arc and ‘Harry Potter’ .
He has also created armoury for such companies as The Royal Shakespeare Co., The Royal Opera House, The Old Vic, The National Theatre, the D’Oyley Carte and the Dutch National Opera.
The sculptures are worked from sheet metal left over from costumes he has made. For example, pictured below is a sculpture ‘The Torso with Pebble’. It is a copy of part of the costume worn by Helen Mirren as the character ‘Morgana’ in the film ‘Excalibur’ and was made from the offcuts of the aluminium sheet which was used to make the Liam Neeson character ‘ Zues’s armour in the film ‘The Clash of the Titans’. For the film the aluminium was gold plated.
